Hello, (((((((((((if shipping/insurance is less, balance refunded via
Listed is a tiny oval shaped painting that has the name of the subject, artist
and year 1818.
I'm thinking, if someone was going to come up with a name and date to write on
the inside of this miniature...they certainly could have selected a "more
exciting historical character", rather than a man who specialized in what must
have been a rather tortuous profession in the early 19th century. But that
work put Philadelphia Pennsylvania on the map regarding dental care and
advancements which we all benefit from today.
Should this be of Dr. L. Koecker and I were a dental school, dentist,
surgeon...I might want this work. If you collect Thomas Sully work, well,
maybe you have another mini to compare the style, brush strokes, or fine
details from his early period to help you make your decision. Constructive
feedback is welcome. Priced to encourage research.
Have seen many attributed to or declared Sully work on sites over the years.
I found this subjects name and date listed in a book of Thomas Sully paintings
as well as the subjects family members. Artist must have kept pretty good
records, accuracy for type/size, dates and subjects were up to someone who
wrote the book I imagine from artists notes, so that can be subject to time.
At least one of the artists pieces may be in the museums.
Subject of portrait was apparently very important in his field. Probable
University of Pennsylvania connection, but that would take some research.
Please do your research as this is being sold as-is no returns due to the
fragility and age.
Thank you for your consideration.
