This rare signed original flash sheet by the late, legendary Canadian tattoo
artist Dave Shore was given to world famous tattooist Jonathan Shaw by Shore at
the legendary Hanky Panky tattoo studio in Amsterdam, Holland.
Dave Shore, a contemporary of Sailor Jerry Collins, a longtime associate and
friend to Zeke Owen and many other great tattoo artists of the day, is another
great legend of modern tattoo history. A character of mythical proportions,
stories of his days in Texas, Hawaii and Europe are from an era in tattooing
few of us got to witness.
Over the decades of his legendary career, Dave worked under the banner of such
great tattooists as Mike Malone, Zeke Owens and Henk (Hanky Panky)
Schiffmacher, and alongside Ed Hardy, Horiyoshi, Luke Atkinson, Corey Miller,
Paul Jefferies and many more. Dave was bigger than life and always left a great
impression wherever he went. As a Canadian, he was perhaps the greatest
ambassador for the craft. He established tattooing's credibility alongside guys
like Paul Jefferies and John the Dutchman. His adventures and associations with
other legendary characters of the past is a link to a colorful history all
modern tattooists owe a debt of gratitude to. Without guys like Dave Shore,
tattooing may never have seen such great progression as it enjoys today. At a
time when very few people were actually pushing the craft in a new direction,
Dave was on the vanguard, expanding people's ideas on what tattooing could be.
His passion for art and the potential he saw for tattooing always motivated him
to progress.
Shore's clean, distinctive tattoo flash painting style has served as an
inspiration to generations of world-class tattooists. This piece with its crisp
line work is in pristine condition and looks as if it was painted yesterday -
despite being near 30 years old.
